James Hoeltje     Mr. James M. Hoeltje – Director of Bands

Mr. Hoeltje graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in December 2007 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music Education and a concentration in saxophone.  His student teaching experience and first teaching position were both in the Plum Borough School District.  His previous teaching experience includes, but is not limited to, work with Trinity High School, Elizabeth Forward High School, Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, and Plum High School Marching Bands.  Mr. Hoeltje also holds a Master of Music degree in Music Education from Duquesne University.  He was hired by the Gateway School District in July 2008 as the elementary band director and high school music technology teacher.  In his time in the Gateway School District, Mr. Hoeltje has taught music technology and adapted music at the high school level and band in grades 4-6 in Moss Side Middle School, Ramsey Elementary, University Park Elementary, Evergreen Elementary, Pitcairn Elementary, and Dr. Cleveland Steward, Jr. Elementary Schools.  Mr. Hoeltje served as the assistant marching band director at Gateway High School from 2009-2016.  He was appointed Director of Bands in the summer of 2016 after the retirement of his dear friend and mentor, Mr. Robert A. Read.  Mr. Hoeltje, his wife, Kim, and their children, Annabelle and Jackson, live in Plum Borough, east of Pittsburgh, PA.
